OUR HISTORY

Carmine J. Faiello, Founder
The story of Shore Water Company begins with a visionary entrepreneur, Carmine James Faiello. In the early 1950s, he saw an opportunity in a growing seaside community—a chance to provide an essential resource to its residents: clean, reliable water.

The area now known as South Seaside Park, a barrier island nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay, was sparsely populated at the time. Water service was initially provided by the neighboring township of Seaside Park, which was sufficient when only a handful of homes dotted the landscape. But as more families and businesses moved in, the need for a dedicated water system became undeniable.

The roots of this endeavor trace back even further, to the 1940s, when a group of forward-thinking investors pooled their resources to dig a deep well and lay the necessary mains. Carmine Faiello was not yet in the water business—he was a partner in the original Blue Front Market, a bustling supermarket and liquor store on Central & Fourth Avenues. He had already built a successful career, having grown up in a family of hardworking Italian immigrants who started Faiello Brothers Trucking in Newark with just a horse and wagon. After selling the trucking business, he invested in the Blue Front alongside friends from Newark, Anthony Villani and Joseph Gerard.

Carmine’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Recognizing the vital role of water infrastructure in South Seaside Park’s development, he gradually began purchasing stock in the local water utility from early investors—including Owen Twining, Richard Winkel, and his own business partner, Joseph Gerard. With time, he acquired full ownership and laid the foundation for what would become a family legacy.

Shore Water Company has remained a family-owned and operated public utility ever since. Carmine’s son, Samuel, who once worked as a teenage ‘cart boy’ at the Blue Front, later became President of the company. His daughter, Gloria, who started her working life as a ‘badge girl’ at Midway Beach at just fourteen, now serves as Chairman of the Board.

For generations, Shore Water Company has been deeply rooted in the community, dedicated to providing residents with a high-quality, dependable water supply. In honor of our founder, we continue to uphold his commitment to service, ensuring that families and businesses in South Seaside Park have access to clean, safe water for years to come.
